On Saturday, November 30th, 2024, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, in collaboration with Sophia Momodu, executed a highly impactful outreach event at the Food Bank warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja. The event brought together women from low-income households across different local government areas in the state, each set to benefit from the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), an initiative aimed at providing immediate relief to families grappling with food insecurity.

Upon arrival, Sophia Momodu and her team were warmly welcomed by the dedicated volunteers at the warehouse. The partner took the opportunity to tour the facilities, gaining insight into the various programs run by the food bank. Sophia was visibly impressed by the Lagos Food Bank’s capacity to make a meaningful impact in the fight against food insecurity and malnutrition in local communities. She definitely was looking forward to an upcoming partnership with Lagos Food Bank to touch lives for the better.

Engaging firsthand, the partner of the day, a humanitarian and founder of Precious Jewels Foundation, joined volunteers in packaging boxes of food to be distributed to the beneficiaries. During a brief speech, she praised the efforts of both the food bank team and the volunteers, recognizing their hard work and commitment to alleviating hunger in various communities. The atmosphere took on a lively energy as Sophia encouraged the women to join her in a fun dance challenge, inspiring laughter and excitement among everyone present. “I am super excited and I look forward to another partnership with this amazing organization to reach more people in need.” she exclaimed, capturing the joy of the moment.

Addressing the attendees at the outreach, the Founder/Executive Director of the food bank, Dr. Michael Sunbola, expressed his appreciation to the partner of the day, and commended her efforts in impacting the society positively, honoring her with a Certificate of Public Good to acknowledge her humanitarian works and encourage her future endeavors.

As the women received their food boxes, their happiness was palpable. Many expressed their heartfelt gratitude, with Sophia describing them as “lovely and full of energy.” The sight of their joyful faces left a lasting impression which the partner said will stay in her memory for a long time. Outreaches like this affirm the power of partnerships and volunteering in creating positive change in communities.
