In commemoration of the Ramadan season, Lagos Food Bank Initiative partnered with Tonic Technologies (Cardtonic) to provide nutritious food items and personal care materials for resilient Muslims in low-income communities observing the Ramadan period.
The outreach which took place at the food bank warehouse on the 14th of March 2024, witnessed a good number of beneficiaries catered for through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) of the food bank. “We appreciate the organization for the items they have given us, this will go a long way in sustaining our families especially during this fasting period, we don’t have to think of what to eat after breaking our fast,” was the words of one of the women who benefited from the distribution.
Present for the outreach were representatives of the partner organization who participated in corporate volunteering activities through packaging of the food boxes. “For us, providing for Muslims during this Ramadan is not just an act of charity; it’s an expression of compassion, harmony, and the true spirit of Islam,” the HR Assistant of Cardtonic, Aishat Suleyman, emphasized during her testimonial video at the end of the distribution.
Addressing those present for the outreach, the Founder/Executive Director of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Dr. Michael Sunbola, appreciated the partners of the day for their generosity and timely partnership, highlighting the need to provide for resilient Muslims during this period of fasting and spiritual supplication. “With the high cost of food and other items in the market, it is important we share and care for our Muslim brothers and sisters struggling to make ends meet during this Ramadan period,” he duly noted, while also advocating for more viable corporate partnerships to reach out to more Muslims in need during the Ramadan.
The outreach was a remarkable success, providing each beneficiary with a food box capable of lasting a family of 5 persons for 2 to 4 weeks.
