On Saturday, October 19th, 2024, Lagos Food Bank Initiative partnered with Australian High Commission Abuja to supply beneficiaries of the Family Farming initiative with essential agricultural materials to kickstart their backyard farms. These supplies included poultry items like cages, feed, chicks, multivitamins, antibiotics, and vegetable seeds and manure.

The outreach aimed to promote food security and self-sustenance by empowering beneficiaries from Agege Community. Alongside volunteers, the food bank team provided detailed guidance on setting up backyard poultry and vegetable farms to ensure a successful agricultural venture, where households can have access to fresh farm products for consumption and enterprise upon harvest.

In his remarks, Dr. Michael Sunbola, President of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, urged beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity, ensuring the success of their farms. He also thanked partners for their dedication to helping families achieve stable incomes, especially in today’s challenging economy.

One of the beneficiaries of the distribution expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am excited to receive these farming materials today. I attended the training, and now with these supplies, I can support my family and grow my farm. I’m really grateful to the food bank.”
