The Lagos Food Bank Initiative successfully hosted its second edition of the car wash fundraiser on April 30, 2023 at the Food Bank warehouse. The event which was tagged “Wash a Car, Feed a Child 2.0” was targeted at raising funds to further the course and positive impact of the EDUFOOD program which provides healthy meals to vulnerable school children across under-served communities within Lagos State.
The event started at 2pm with eager volunteers and guests who were present to take part in the car washing activities. The activities kickedoff with a speech delivered by Dr. Michael Sunbola, the Executive Director of Lagos Food Bank Initiative. In his speech which was very explanatory, he did inform participants about developments during the previous year, which includes the management’s decision to customize a vehicle for EDUFOOD, and experience in the purchase, transportation and distribution of food items to the school children every week, except holidays.
The fundraising program was followed immediately with the after-party as all participants were engaged with entertainment activities such as games, music, eating and drinking of food varieties. Chinelo, a first time volunteer of the food bank, expressed that she was really excited to participate in the car wash as she loved the initiative taken by the food bank.
Upon the successful execution of this year’s program, LFBI hopes to have a more impactful EDUFOOD program as schools resume from break, and anticipate for the third edition within the coming year.
