In celebration of World Food Day 2024, which advocates for the right to food for a better life and future, the Lagos Food Bank partnered with Itel Nigeria to take meaningful action in tackling food insecurity affecting resilient households and individuals in low-income communities. Together, both organization’s reached out to children in low-cost schools through the EDUFOOD program to encourage school attendance and improve students’ performance in the classroom. The event took place on Friday, October 18, 2024, in Oko Agbon community in Yaba, Lagos.
From the moment the food bank team arrived with the partners of the day, the students eagerly welcomed them with contagious smiles and energy, having been beneficiaries of the EDUFOOD initiative for over 6 months. The day unfolded with a series of engaging activities that brought laughter, joy and hope, transforming the environment into a lively festival of impact.
Speaking to attendees of the outreach, the Head of CSR Initiatives, Itel Nigeria, Osa-Edekere Isoken said; “we are excited to see the children with their smiling faces and we are proud to partner with LFBI to help build a brighter future for children. Today being World Food Day, we strongly believe in our theme for this impactful partnership, which is food for every child.”
As mealtime approached, excitement reached new heights. The children were served nutritious hot meals, and were given essential items like school bags and lunch boxes to support their education. This not only nourished the students but also ensured they are well-equipped for their daily learning activities. Playing a vital role throughout the distribution, food bank volunteers demonstrated their commitment to driving positive change in the community effortlessly.
The day was more than just an event; it was a celebration of community, collaboration, and more importantly, equal right to quality food for young school children.
