On Thursday, May 29th, 2025, the Lagos Food Bank NGO commemorated World Hunger Day by deepening its commitment to alleviating hunger in low-income communities across Nigeria. In honor of this significant day, the food bank organized a food distribution event, providing essential staple food items to 9 non-profit organizations from hard-to-reach Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Lagos and neighboring states such as Yobe, Osun, and Ogun.

These food grants were aimed at helping the nonprofits collaborate with the Food Bank Network Nigeria to extend their reach and enhance the fight against hunger and food insecurity. By partnering with these organizations, the food bank ensured that more vulnerable populations would gain access to vital nutrition and support in their communities.

Maume Agbaosi, one of the dedicated program officers at the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, welcomed everyone, then representatives from the NGOs introduced themselves and what they do at their NGO.

Executive Director, Dr. Michael Sunbola, expressed his appreciation for the critical role these non-profit organizations play in combating hunger within their local areas and warmly welcomed the organization to the food bank’s mission.

The event was virtual at the food bank’s warehouse, and also featured a training session for the representatives of these partner NGOs.

Temitope Abere, the Founder of  Smartan House, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating that the food grant would significantly improve the lives of the beneficiaries they support by providing access to much-needed nutrition.

The day concluded with heartwarming messages from each NGO, all expressing how the support from the Food Bank Network Nigeria had been essential in sustaining their efforts and programs. World NGO Day thus became a powerful reminder of the collaborative effort needed to address food insecurity and the role that organizations like the Food Bank Network Nigeria play in making a tangible difference in the fight against hunger.
