On 30 September, Food Bank Network Nigeria (FBNN) commemorated the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste by distributing food items to 20 non-profit organizations working with vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste highlights the need for collective action to reduce food loss and waste while ensuring that available food reaches people who need it most. Through the distribution, FBNN supported 20 beneficiary organizations with food items that will be channeled to vulnerable individuals and families within their communities.
The initiative reflects FBNN’s commitment to reducing food waste and promoting food recovery by connecting available food resources with organizations that have direct access to underserved communities.
Distribution Highlights
The distribution brought together representatives from the participating non-profit organizations, who received food items to support their ongoing community interventions. The items will help the organizations extend food assistance to vulnerable households and individuals within their respective communities.
Following the distribution, representatives of the beneficiary organizations shared testimonials and expressed their appreciation to Food Bank Network Nigeria for the continued support. They highlighted how the food donations would contribute to sustaining their programs and reaching more people experiencing food insecurity.
The testimonials also reflected the importance of partnerships in addressing food insecurity and ensuring that recovered and available food resources are put to meaningful use rather than going to waste.
The distribution concluded with appreciation from the participating organizations, who expressed gratitude to Food Bank Network Nigeria for supporting their work and helping them reach more vulnerable members of their communities.
Through initiatives such as this, Food Bank Network Nigeria continues to promote food recovery, reduce food waste, and strengthen collaboration with non-profit organizations working to build more food-secure communities across Nigeria.
