Speaking to attendees during the outreach, Ms. Chizoma Velarie, CEO of Firewood Jollof, emphasized the importance of giving back to the community as part of the organization’s culture. She also appreciated the Food Bank for a successful collaboration and the volunteers for their commitment in supporting community-centered projects. She concluded by inviting volunteers to their upcoming festival, “The Unbeatable Love Project,” an event that promises to showcase some of the finest cultural and intercontinental dishes ever known to Nigerians.

On the 30th of October, 2026, a maiden partnership between Firewood Jollof and the Lagos Food Bank Initiative took place at the Food Bank warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja, through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). The impactful event supported over a hundred economically disadvantaged women and their families across underserved communities in Lagos with essential food supplies that can last a family of four to five for over two weeks.

Showing up with a heart of compassion and service, the Firewood Jollof team cheerfully participated in the day’s activities with one mission; to put smiles on the faces of beneficiaries and fill plates in needy homes. From the tour of the Food Bank warehouse to the short presentation on the Food Bank’s service to humanity, they asked insightful questions to better understand the operations of their partner.

Following an exciting session where they teamed up with Food Bank volunteers to package food boxes, the distribution of the boxes was seamless, thanks to the structured outreach process that the Lagos Food Bank is renowned for.

Speaking to the Food Bank media team after the distribution, Mr. Adamu, a visually impaired father of three from Ojo community, appreciated the Food Bank and their partner for the invaluable support, citing the hardship faced by his household in recent times as deeply challenging.

As feeding remains a daily challenge for many families within and beyond Lagos, the Food Bank remains steadfast in bridging the hunger gap, leveraging collaborations with reputable organizations like Firewood Jollof to ensure no family is left behind in the fight against food insecurity.

As for Firewood Jollof, this 10th year anniversary initiative is a testament to the power of collective action in addressing issues affecting communities through Corporate Social Responsibility and celebrating significant milestones. As the organization promised to remain relevant in the food industry to serve its customers the absolute best quality dishes, they also highlighted their intentions to be regular partners of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, recognizing that the fight against hunger and malnutrition can only be won when organizations and individuals unite under a common goal.
