Taking place at the Lagos Food Bank warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja, on the 27th of May 2025, beneficiaries of the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) returned to their various homes and communities joyfully, after an impactful day of partnership between the Lagos Food Bank Initiative and the popular musical artist, Fido. The “Joy Is Coming” crooner showed his compassion for the needy through his benevolence that saw many resilient women leave the Food Bank warehouse with food boxes and a good sum of money to cover their transport expenses.

The unforgettable experience was heartwarming from the very beginning as the women welcomed the partner upon his arrival with singing, which moved the singer beyond actual words. Shortly followed, was a round of applause accompanied with exciting screams as the Food Bank volunteers showed enthusiasm and appreciation upon seeing one of their favorites walk into the warehouse to be a part of the Lagos Food Bank’s mission of a hunger-free society.

In his address to attendees of the outreach, just before he began an electrifying performance of one of his most popular songs, he appreciated every volunteer that made out time to support his kind gesture of giving back to society, highlighting the importance of giving and sharing with the less privileged as the true purpose of being successful and living a fulfilling life. He also encouraged everyone present to do the same out of the little they had, emphasizing that no one becomes poor from giving to the needy.

The Founder/Executive Director of the Food Bank, Dr. Michael Sunbola, appreciated the partner of the day for supporting the food bank’s mission, and for his timely partnership to ease the hardship faced by economically disadvantaged households in underserved communities. He ensured that the food boxes distributed would go a long way in fostering resilience and keeping the hope alive for improved food security in low-cost communities. He also recognized the new volunteers joining the food bank for an outreach for the first time and encouraged them to keep being agents of positive change in our society.

The successful distribution was timely, given the harsh economic realities faced by many low-income households nationwide. And the importance of volunteers involvement can not be overemphasized, joining the partner and his team in packaging the food boxes and ensuring a seamless outreach process by coordinating the beneficiaries and helping them in carrying their food boxes to their point of departure.
