On Thursday 3rd of April, 2025, Unity Bank in partnership with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative will implement a sustainable initiative to train vulnerable women living in underserved communities on urban backyard farming and support them with staple foods and relief materials through the Family Farming Program and Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) of the Food Bank.

This impactful partnership is set to address food insecurity and poverty affecting the livelihood and productivity of households living in underserved communities, and will be held at the Lagos Food Bank warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja.

GOAL:

This outreach is aimed at equipping economically disadvantaged households with the knowledge and skills to start their respective backyard farms for consumption and enterprise, while providing food relief to meet their short-term needs.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To train women and youths on urban backyard farming to grow vegetables, snails and poultry.
  • To improve food security in low-income households.
  • To promote sustainability, healthy eating and living.
