On the 23rd of November 2024, Lagos Food Bank Initiative had an exciting partnership with an individual, Esther Jimmy, to celebrate her birthday by providing food and relief items, and decent clothing to resilient families from low-cost communities, through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) of the food bank.

Taking place at the food bank warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja, the bright atmosphere of the Saturday morning resonated hope as the outreach activities gradually unfolded. Welcoming the partner and celebrant with a heartwarming birthday song by the food bank team and volunteers, a brief tour of the food bank facility and presentation of initiatives followed to give more insight on the food banks servitude to humanity.

Accompanied by her close friends, the celebrant and partner of the day, Esther Jimmy, joyfully engaged in the packaging of the food boxes to be distributed to women and families, fostering hope, resilience and well-being in underserved communities.

In addressing attendees of the outreach, Esther Jimmy appreciated the food bank for a well-coordinated string of events, expressing her delight at partnering with the food bank to mark another wonderful year of growth and fulfillment, having been an online follower of the food bank’s activities and impact journey.

In his address to attendees, the Founder and Executive Director of Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Dr. Michael Sunbola, appreciated the partner of the day for taking the initiative to reach out to the food bank with the intention of celebrating her special day by supporting households living below the poverty line. He emphasized on the importance of reaching out to needy households as a profound way of expressing gratitude for the gift of life, and other similar reasons for merriment.

This timely distribution was one that would not be forgotten too soon for the beneficiaries, as they also received envelopes of cash alongside their food boxes. Showing unwavering support for community-driven initiatives were the food bank volunteers who attended the out to ensure a seamless distribution process.
