On the 12th of February 2025, Cornerstone Insurance Plc showed total commitment to community development by partnering with Lagos Food Bank Initiative to ensure brighter futures for food insecure children in low-cost primary schools in Papa-Ashafa, Agege community, providing nourishing meals during school hours to foster school attendance, improve cognitive development in young minds and maintain general well-being.
Participating in the packaging and distribution of the cooked meals, the Cornerstone Insurance Plc team gathered at the Lagos Food Bank warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja, where they had a comprehensive tour of the Food Bank’s facility to better understand the operations of the humanitarian organization in serving economically disadvantaged households and communities.
Addressing attendees of the program, comprising of team members from the Food Bank, volunteers who came in numbers to show support of the school feeding initiative and fellow representatives from the partner organization, the General Manager of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Charles Nwachukwu, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to improving the welfare of underserved communities.
“We are proud to be part of this laudable initiative to give a sense of belonging to our school children, especially the less privileged children this Valentine. There is no better time to do this than now.
“It is time to show love to the people of our immediate community through insurance. Our slogan this period is “Show Love with Insurance.” We need to affect our environment positively by showing love and giving to help those who are in need,” Charles Nwachukwu said.
The Founder and Executive Director of Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Dr. Michael Sunbola, appreciated the partner organization for the timely collaboration and highlighted the importance of providing school meals for children for a brighter future. He also emphasized on the importance of partnerships with the private and public sectors in addressing the issue of food insecurity that leads to high drop-out rates in school children.
The outreach was a huge success, evident in the faces of the children as they vibrantly welcomed the Food Bank team and their partners on their arrival. Speaking to the principal of Divine Wisdom, one of the beneficiary schools, he cited the importance of the school feeding initiative as a catalyst for keeping children in school and improving their overall academic experience.
