“I never knew people like this existed… someone who doesn’t even know me, but still cares enough to support my family.”
Holding her food box close, a beneficiary paused before sharing those words. Around her were dozens of women and households facing the daily realities of food insecurity, each carrying a story of resilience, struggle, and hope. Her heartfelt remark captured the spirit of what unfolded on June 2, 2026.
The Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) welcomed renowned Nigerian soul singer, songwriter, and actor Chike for a heartfelt Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) outreach at its warehouse in Mangoro, Ikeja. Known for his soulful music and calm presence, Chike brought more than his celebrity status. He brought warmth, encouragement, and a genuine willingness to serve.
The atmosphere was filled with energy and purpose as volunteers, staff, and Chike worked side by side to package and distribute nutritious food boxes containing essential food items. Music played softly in the background, conversations flowed easily, and moments of laughter brightened the day. What began as a food distribution quickly became a meaningful experience of connection and shared humanity.
In a further gesture of generosity, Chike extended support to both beneficiaries and volunteers, offering financial gifts as a personal expression of appreciation and compassion. The gesture added an even deeper layer of encouragement to the day, leaving many visibly moved by his thoughtfulness.
Dr. Michael Sunbola, Founder and Executive Director of LFBI, expressed sincere appreciation to Chike for choosing to stand with vulnerable families and support the fight against hunger. He also commended the volunteers whose unwavering commitment continues to make such impactful outreaches possible.
In his remarks, Chike thanked the volunteers for their selfless service, describing their dedication as both inspiring and admirable. He shared his desire to volunteer more often and expressed his intention to deepen his involvement with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative in the future.
For many beneficiaries, the food boxes meant far more than nourishment. They meant meals on the table, relief from difficult choices, and one less burden to worry about. Beyond the food itself, the outreach offered something equally important: the reassurance that they are seen, valued, and not alone. Many left with grateful hearts and renewed hope, strengthened by this timely act of kindness.
This outreach reflects LFBI’s ongoing mission to combat hunger and malnutrition through targeted interventions such as TEFAP. Chike’s willingness to use his time and influence in service to others serves as a powerful reminder that true impact is not measured only by talent or success, but by the lives touched and the hope restored along the way.
