On Friday, October 11, 2024. Lagos Food Bank partnered with Hewlett-Packard (HP) to show benevolence to resilient families in Akoka-Bariga Community through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) – an initiative that seeks to ease the burden on households by providing immediate food relief and essential items. A typical TEFAP disbursement can serve a family of four to five for three to four weeks.

The day kicked off with an inspiring speech from Dr. Michael Sunbola, the Executive Director/Founder of Lagos Food Bank Initiative. His heartfelt gratitude to the partner of the day and highlight on the impact of the partnership emphasized the critical importance of reaching out to those in need within our communities. With everything meticulously organized, the atmosphere was filled with anticipation, as beneficiaries proudly held their food box tickets, a symbol of hope they received the day before.

Team members from the partner organization witnessed many families in need of support for food and essential supplies and that a frontline agency like Lagos Food Bank can reach out and bring them together seamlessly. The Country Head of HP, Mr. Manny Asika, in his words said; “I am glad to be part of this outreach and this is something our country needs. I would like to always be part of this kind of activity either as a volunteer or as a partner, and I hope we can do this again with the food bank to help more communities.”

The excitement was palpable among the women who received their food boxes. Their laughter and joy echoed through the crowd, a testament to how timely assistance can spark happiness and relief. The outreach event was more than just a distribution; it was a demonstration of the collective strength of partners, volunteers, and the Lagos Food Bank team to ensure no family goes to bed hungry.
