On December 19, 2024, Ijesha Community in Surulere buzzed with excitement as a beloved celebrity – Blaqbonez under the Chocolate City record label, returned to his roots. He was eager to reconnect with the neighborhood that shaped him, and the atmosphere was filled with joy and nostalgia.

Volunteers were very excited as they participated in a special sing-along featuring one of the celebrity’s hit songs. Laughter and voices harmonized, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. The event also focused on a vital mission: giving back. Food packaged in boxes was distributed to over 150 women in the community, many facing challenging times. Their expressions of sincere appreciation transformed the act of receiving into a moment of shared joy and connection.

The Executive Director of Lagos Food Bank, Dr. Michael A. Sunbola paid a visit to the modest house where Blaqbonez had lived previously. This was a testament to his humble beginnings. The celebrity shared stories of perseverance, emphasizing why he felt a deep obligation to contribute to the community that nurtured him. “This food came at the right time. May God continue to replenish your pocket” – this was a word of appreciation from one of the women.

The day showcased the strength of community through generosity. Volunteers and the partner made the event possible, proving that even small acts of kindness can inspire hope and change lives. As the outreach approached an end, the spirit of giving shone brightly, reminding everyone that together, they could uplift one another—one song and one meal at a time.
