Grace. Grit. Generosity.
These three words captured the spirit of Kate Henshaw‘s outreach celebration to mark her 55th birthday. While many celebrate life’s milestones with family gatherings and personal festivities, the award-winning actress and Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) Ambassador chose to mark hers by extending hope and nourishment to 55 widows through the Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative.
On July 20, 2026, Kate Henshaw partnered with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative for a special TEFAP outreach at the Food Bank warehouse in Ikeja, Lagos. Joining dedicated staff and volunteers, she actively participated in packaging and distributing nutritious food boxes filled with essential staple items, helping to provide timely relief to vulnerable widows and their households.

The atmosphere was one of warmth, gratitude, and shared purpose as volunteers worked together to prepare and distribute the food boxes. Kate immersed herself in every stage of the outreach, engaging warmly with beneficiaries and volunteers alike. Her presence reflected not only her commitment as an LFBI Ambassador but also her genuine desire to stand alongside vulnerable communities in meaningful ways.
Speaking during the outreach, Kate Henshaw expressed how honoured she was to partner with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative for the second time, particularly as a bona fide ambassador of the organisation, a role she said she is proud to identify with. She noted that supporting 55 widows in celebration of her 55th birthday made the milestone even more significant. She also commended the Lagos Food Bank Initiative for its unwavering dedication and tireless efforts to improve food security and positively impact vulnerable communities across Nigeria, and further called for more individuals and organisations to channel support into initiatives like the Lagos Food Bank.
Also speaking at the outreach, Dr. Michael Sunbola, Executive Director of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, expressed sincere appreciation to Kate Henshaw for consistently using her platform to uplift others and for choosing to celebrate her birthday through an act of service. He commended the volunteers for their unwavering commitment and noted that partnerships such as these continue to restore dignity, strengthen communities, and bring hope to families facing food insecurity.
For the beneficiaries, many of whom are widows carrying the responsibility of providing for their families under difficult circumstances, the support extended far beyond nourishment. Alongside nutritious food boxes, each widow received a cash gift of ₦40,000, providing additional relief to help meet pressing household needs. Together, these acts of generosity eased the burden of uncertain meals, brought comfort during a challenging season, and served as a reassuring reminder that they are not forgotten. One widow, her eyes filled with gratitude, quietly offered a prayer of thanks as she received her package, a simple yet deeply moving moment that captured the true impact of the day’s outreach.
This outreach reflects the Lagos Food Bank Initiative’s mission to combat hunger and malnutrition through targeted interventions such as TEFAP. Kate Henshaw’s decision to commemorate her 55th birthday by supporting 55 widows stands as a powerful reminder that life’s most meaningful milestones are those that create hope, restore dignity, and leave a lasting impact on the lives of others.
